Romanticism was an artistic,literary,musical and intellectual movement originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century and in most areas was its peak in the approximate period of 1800 to 1850.
Main characteristics:
Emphasis in emotions and feelings.
Awe of nature.
Glorification of all the past (preffering the medieval rather than the Classical).
Importance of imagination.
Individualism.
Architecture.
*Romanticism in architecture is an umbrella term that covers many of the European 19th century 'revivalist' and Eastern influenced styles like Neoclassicism,Greek Revial,NeoBaroque,etc.
*The Romantic period in the arts kicked off with the excavations and rediscovery of ancients ruins from the Roman and Greek periods of antiquity.This led to an explosion of ancient Greco-Roman temple architecture being revived in new architectural arrangements.
